Frequently Asked Questions
Over the years, our charter fishing parties have asked many questions about charter fishing.
Here are some of the more frequently asked.
What should I bring?
- Ohio or Canadian fishing license required (talk to captain first)
- Jacket
- Hat
- Swimsuit
- Rain Gear
- Medium fishing tackle
- Small Tackle Box
- Large Cooler (to take fish home)
- Medications you may need
- Suntan/sunscreen lotion
- Soft soled shoes
- Sunglasses
- Lunch & Beverages
- Camera
If I reserve a charter that includes the tackle, can I still use my own rod and reel?
Yes. Feel free to bring your favorite rod and reel, if you prefer.
If we happen to get a limit of fish early in the day, can we fish for other species?
Yes. If we happen to get a limit of our targeted species early in the day, we can fill out your day doing whatever you want to do. This could include fishing for other species or doing some “catch and release” fishing. Or, we could stop at an Island and enjoy more of the benefits of being in Ohio’s Vacationland!
Is fish cleaning available?
Yes. There are numerous local options to have your fish professionally cleaned and packaged. One service even offers FREE “dock-side” pick-up!
If I have a large group, are additional boats available?
Yes. Charter boats are licensed for 6 passengers, or less. If you have more anglers, we’ll just add as many boats as your group needs.
My group needs lodging. What is it like to stay at the The POND Condominiums?
If you’re looking for a 5-star “lakefront” hotel, this won’t meet your goals. This is a “townhouse” style condo that is clean and very reasonably priced, & makes for a great option. Each condo faces a 25-acre POND that is full of pan-fish and bass! There are recreational amenities such as a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a picnic pavilion and a huge bonfire area. Everyone has their own bed and linens are provided. There is a full kitchen plus a private deck with a grill. The marina is about 10 minutes away. There are 18 suites available & they do fill up!
Your captain coordinates your lodging arrangements as part of your complete charter/lodging reservation package.
Why do we fish the Canadian waters of Lake Erie versus staying in Ohio?
There are certain times of the year that the fishing is more productive just over the border. Since the border is not far from our dock, it is a convenient trip for us to fish the Canadian waters. Canadian licenses are required. You can preorder and print off your license on the internet at https://www.huntandfishontario.com/
Can I buy my Ohio fishing license on the internet?
Yes. Go to www1.oh.wildlifelicense.com
If we fish the Canadian waters, do I still need to have an Ohio Fishing License?
No. In this case, all you need is a Canadian license. Click here to review the current rules and regulations for fishing in Canadian waters.
When do you offer night fishing for walleyes?
Walleye night fishing charters are set up in the late fall. It is shallow water fishing and we are casting crank-baits and stick baits over “rocky” locations.
